Situated to the North West of Sydney, Australia, "Obsolete" has what is arguably the largest varied range of new and used antique car, truck, and some motorcycle, tractor, engine, parts in the Southern Hemisphere.I have had 32 years world wide experience as Obsolete Auto Parts.I have been in the vintage car/truck/motorcycle/engine and parts business since 1969. I had an old 1925 Chevrolet "ute" (utility), (this is a touring car converted to a pickup) that I drove around for fun mainly in the Blue Mountains, 80 kilometers west of Sydney. People constantly pestered me to sell it for much more than I paid for it. So I eventually sold it & bought two more in far better condition with the money paid. I drove one of these "utes" around, only to be offered more than I paid and, need I say more. After discussing the pros and cons of going into the business full time selling vintage vehicles, people would come to me to buy parts off the 60 or so cars I had accumulated in 1969-70. I ultimately decided to enter the parts side of the business full time, initially hunting down parts from around Australia and New Zealand, and then more than 45 countries around the world. We My growing family and I) suffered and enjoyed the ups and downs of working long hours, running out of money, being ripped off, meeting thousands of different types of people, finding great caches of parts and memorabilia, and learning much as the years rolled by, since first getting the ball rolling in 1969. We have sold several thousand vintage vehicles and many hundreds of thousands of parts to many thousands of people restoring all types of vintage cars, trucks, motorcycles, engines, horse drawn vehicles, aircraft, boats and other assorted collectables. We have bought a more suitable park like grounds, larger, more suitable storage and display site at Bilpin, NSW, in the Blue Mountains, about 90 minutes north west from the Sydney Central Business District. We are slowly moving all my accumulated stocks of new and used 1900-1960's parts and memorabilia to all be under one roof at "Tara Park", an old apple orchard Packing Shed, established in the early 1960's. Hopefully in another few years we will be closer to opening the site full time and inviting interested persons to view our vast range of items for sale. I now have over 32 years of experience tucked under my belt with which to rely on a reasonable future in supplying more and more vintage parts and related items. I will always try to be courteous, attentive and considerate of your needs, but I also expect you to be considerate of my very hard earned position. It does not come cheap, even though many people would like that to have been the case. The reality is quite different. It now costs more than it ever did before, to survive, as the world economic situation constantly changes. I regret, sometimes I do not suffer inconsiderate people easily. Try to remember that business and life is a two way street, where the value of goods and services traded is based on supply and demand factors. As time rolls by I will try to bring you, via these pages, stories of some of my experiences in the vintage vehicle world. I must also gratefully thank my ever suffering extremely wonderful wife, Petra... for all her relentless assistance and advice, as I would not have survived the roller coaster ride I have forced her to endure, without her wonderful contribution. Also my two boys and two girls who, I hope, continue things further into the future as I pass onto that Great Junk Yard in the sky (hopefully not for a while as I'm only 55). Thank you in anticipation of a interesting and enjoyable future, please send me your Obsolete Auto Parts is in the process of moving to much larger premises nearby.Tony is busy resorting, re-identifying, packing and shelving several tonnes of stock, hence the appearance of chaos in these photos. Look for updated photos as the move progresses.
