Cree Incorporated. The Group's principal activities are to develop and manufacture compound semiconductor materials and electronic devices from Silicon Carbide ('SiC') and optoelectronic and electronic devices from gallium nitride ('GaN'). The Group operates in two segments: the Cree segment and the Cree Microwave segment. The Cree segment manufactures wide bandgap compound semiconductors using SiC and GaN. Products from this segment are used in cellular handsets, automotive backlighting, indicator lamps, full color LED displays, microwave and power applications. The Cree Microwave segment designs, manufactures and markets silicon-based laterally diffused metal oxide semiconductors and bipolar radio frequency power semiconductors and modules for use in power amplifiers for wireless infrastructure applications. The Group has international operations in Europe, Malaysia and other Asian countries. Semiconductor products accounted for 88% of fiscal 2002 revenue and Contract revenue, 12%.
