Mostecka Uhelna Spolocnost a.s.(MUS). The company is involved in mining, modification and wholesale of brown coal. In 2000 the company sold 13,635,000 tons of steam coal, 2,474,000 tons of powdered coal, 1,109,000 tons of graded coal and 176,000 tons of extracted coal. The coal from deep mines contains low amounts of sulphur. In the same year the company extracted 17,426,597 tons of coal and stripped 43,326,784 cubic metres of overburden. The company's main customer is CEZ a.s. In 2000 the company exported 724,500 tons of coal, mainly to Germany (77%) and the Slovak Republic (14%) and spent CZK 256,000,000 for the recultivation of 3,054 hectares of surfaces. The company has ten plants and controls 20 companies; it also has interests under 50% in further 9 companies (of which one in the Slovak Republic).
