Phelps Dodge Corporation. The Group's principal activities are to produce copper, carbon black, magnet wire and continuous-cast copper rod. The Group operates in two divisions namely Phelps Dodge Mining Company and Phelps Dodge Industries. Phelps Dodge Mining Company is involved in vertically integrated copper operations including mining, concentrating, electrowinning, smelting, refining, rod production, marketing and sales and related activities. Phelps Dodge Industries comprises of Specialty Chemicals and the Wire and Cable segments. Specialty chemicals segment produces and markets carbon blacks. The Wire and Cable segment manufactures magnet wire, energy and telecommunications cables and specialty conductors for use in global energy, telecommunications, transportation and specialty chemicals sectors. Smelting and refineries accounted for 49% of 2002 revenues; Wire and Cable, 18%; Mining, 17%; Specialty chemicals, 15% and Other mining, 1%.
