PreussenElektra AG, Germany's second largest interconnected level utility in terms of electricity sales, generates electricity from lignite, nuclear power plants, hard coal, other fuel and hydropower stations. The company also distributes natural gas and operates in the water supply and waste disposal sector. Currently, PreussenElektra AG is intensifying its involvement in a planned interconnected electricity network encompassing the Baltic Sea, the so called "Baltic Ring". The company has mainly domestic subsidiaries. Electricity accounted for 78% of 1999 revenues; gas, 12%; water, 3% and other, 7%.
