Hamburger Gaswerke GmbH (HGW) distributes natural gas and heating steam in Hamburg and other surrounding federal states. The total of natural gas distributed in 1993 amounted to approwimately 29,000 million kilowatt-hours (mkwh). This total can be sub-divided into the following client groups: private households, 7,500 mkwh; commerce/industry, 7,250 mkwh; municipal distributors, 5,500 mkwh; large scale industry, 4,000 mkwh; heating, 3,750 mkwh and public services, 1,000 mkwh. HGW supplied 22 utility companies as well as 126 municiple districts with natural gas during 1993. The company has solely domestic subsidiaries, including HGW HanseGas GmbH; HAMBURG GAS CONSULT Gastechnische Beratungs GmbH and Holsteiner Gas-Gesellschaft mbH. Gas distribution accounted for 95% of 1993 revenues; district heating, 4% and other, 1%.
