Mobile Gas Service Corporation distributes natural gas to nearly 100,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers in southwest Alabama and also conducts certain nonutility operations. The company's wholly-owned subsidiaries include MGS Energy Services, Inc., which performs a variety of services for water and gas distribution systems and industry and MGS Storage Services which is developing an underground cavern for the storage of natural gas. The company also owns MGS Marketing Services which markets natural gas to potential customers outside traditional service areas. Gas sales accounted for 96% of fiscal 1997 revenues and merchandise sales and jobbing, 4%.
