G.M. Pfaff AG (Pfaff), founded in 1862, manufactures and markets industrial and household sewing machines. Sewing machine models include: Pfaff 1491E (used by the footwear and clothing industries in the production of shoes and leather goods); Pfaff 1422 (a one and two needled sewing machine); Pfaff 5489H (used by the clothing industry, and particularly suited to the finishing of denim clothing) and 1475 PCD, a computer-assisted sewing machine which, in addition to performing all the operations of a conventional sewing machine, allows the user to create their own designs. The company has worldwide subsidiaries. Industrial sewing machines accounted for 64% of 1997 revenues and household sewing machines for 36%.
