KTI, Inc. provides waste handling business through waste-to-energy facilities. The company convert ordinary, non-hazardous solid waste from residential, commercial and industrial sources into refuse derived fuel which is used to generate electrical power to be sold to electrical utilities. KTI provides recycling, processing and disposal capabilities, specialty waste disposal services and recycling of ash combustion residue. The company operations are classfied into four segments Waste-to-energy, Residential Recycling, Commercial Recycling and Finished products. During the year the company acquired ten companies and an additional partnership in one company. The company acquired AFA group, Inc and subsidiaries in January 1999. Waste-to-energy accounted for 47% of 1998 revenues; commercial recycling, 35%; finished products, 12% and residential recycling, 6%.
