South Western Electricity plc, which was incorporated in 1989, succeeded the South Western Electricity Board as the regional electricity utility for the counties of Devon, Somerset, Cornwall and parts of Avon and Dorset, in the south west of England. The group also has an appliance retailing operation, is engaged in electrical contracting, gas supply and has a telecommunications business which has begun a 10 million pound investment to construct fibre optic circuits from Bristol to Land's End. Sale of electricity to customers accounted for 66% of fiscal 1994 revenues; delivery of electricity across the group's network, 21%; the sale and service of electrical appliances, 6% and other businesses, 7%.
