Single-Site Catalysts is an independent development company started by Catalytica in 1996. The company was renamed Single-Site Catalysts in April 2002 with the acquisition by a group of investors from the founding company. We are focused on single-site organometallics and boron co-catalysts. These recently discovered class of chemical compounds are finding increasing use in highly controlled polymerization reactions. Organometallic single-site catalysts, especially metallocenes are used to produce new grades of plastics, such as polyethylene and polypropylene. They impart desirable qualities such as increased impact strength and toughness, better melt characteristics, and improved clarity in films. Single-site catalysts are being developed for a wide range of other reactions including oligomerization, olefin metathesis, hydrogenations, carbonylations, and oxidations. The venture combines a worldwide sales and marketing organization and organometallic synthesis and manufacturing capabilities of Catalytica. We also have an exclusive partnership with Norquay Technology, Inc. for the development and production of boron co-catalysts, as well as the integrated production of single-site catalysts. Our catalyst experts welcome the opportunity to discuss how we can assist your company in the supply of high quality, cost-effective organometallic catalysts. We would be happy to execute a confidentiality agreement to facilitate discussions. We're not just a supplier, but your development partner. CAPABILITIES We work closely with our customers, under confidentiality, usually beginning early in the catalyst development process to ensure that reliable, high-quality, cost-effective supplies are available when needed for commercial production. Our technology and expertise enable us to demonstrate cost-effective manufacturing processes at the research and development stage, and then efficiently scale these up to manufacture commercial volumes. We have been synthesizing and scaling up complex, air- and water-sensitive organometallic catalysts since the early 1980's. We develop advanced syntheses of organometallic catalysts for our customers drawing upon an experienced team of Ph.D. organometallic chemists. We are equally adept at independent development process or close collaboration with customers' R&D teams. Process development and scale-up to kilogram quantities of single-site organometallics and supported catalysts are guided by experienced process engineers at our R&D center in Mountain View, California and Chester, Pennsylvania. We have extensive analytical equipment and experts to support R&D and commercial operations in the following areas: nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) infrared spectroscopy (IR) gas chromatography (GC) high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) We use a broad array of equipment to meet our customers needs. The commercial reactors range in size from 200 to 5,000 liters with a variety of metallurgy (glass-lined, stainless steel, Hastelloy). We have capabilities to handle both high temperature with hot oil and steam systems and low temperature with liquid nitrogen and glycol refrigeration. We have a complete line of auxiliary equipment to handle all typical unit operations. All manufacturing is done to the highest health, safety, and environmental standards, including the use of difficult chemicals or solvents.
