Sloss Industries Chemical Division The Chemical Division of Sloss Industries Corporation is a leading domestic source of custom chemicals for a wide range of specialized applications. Headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama, the company is a major supplier of versatile industrial catalysts; modifiers; agricultural, pharmaceutical, and nutriceutical intermediates; and performance - enhancing antioxidants for rubber and plastics. Sloss is engaged in product and process development and scale-up as well as manufacturing - and has earned ISO 9001:2000 certification while also operating according to GMP guidelines. Sloss Industries Coke Division Sloss Industries Corporation has been one of the nation's leading manufacturers of coke since 1920. Headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama, the Coke Division expanded steadily throughout the middle of the twentieth century, parallel to the city's emergence as a major center for iron and steel production. That growth has been sustained over the years; significant advancements have been made in plant technology as well as product quality; and, as a result, the division now produces approximately 460,000 tons of coke annually, meeting the most exacting requirements of the blast furnace market and the foundry industry alike. Sloss Industries Fiber Division The Fiber Division of Sloss Industries Corporation evolved in the mid-1900s as a result of the company's Coke Division operations. Sloss has been a major producer of coke for use in blast furnaces and foundries since 1882; and slag is a natural by-product of the coke manufacturing process, resulting from the reduction of iron ore. This naturally occurring supply of slag set the stage for Sloss to begin producing slag wool fiber in 1947. Since that time, numerous applications and a growing demand for slag wool and various derivative products have emerged. The Fiber Division has remained at the industry forefront in terms of manufacturing, processing, and development of innovative fibers in response to a wide range of needs.
