Since its establishment in 1937, Daewoo's products represent the development level of Republic of Korea's machinery industry. DHI cooperated with an Australian in making marine engines since 1958, and with German Man GmbH  in developing a heavy duty diesel engine series in 1975. In 1990, Daewoo  launched its factory in Europe, in 1994, it established Daewoo Heavy  Industry (Yantai) Co., Ltd. In 1996, it established Daewoo Heavy Industry  (USA) Co., Ltd.
