Here’s the manufacturing story nobody is telling clearly right now: the sector is expanding \u2014 for the fourth straight month \u2014 and costs are rising faster than at any point in the last four years. Both things are true at the same time, and understanding that tension is the most useful thing a sourcing or procurement professional can do right now.<\/p>\n

The ISM Manufacturing PMI for April 2026 came in at 52.7% \u2014 the same reading as March, and the fourth consecutive month of expansion. New orders grew for the fourth straight month. Production expanded for the sixth month in a row. By almost every headline measure, U.S. manufacturing is in solid shape.<\/p>\n
