Distressed Farmhouse Wood Frame

Distressed wood is the process of wood finish that makes new wood look old. Aged wood often looks better than new. Whether painted or unpainted, aged wood has character, with weathered textures and darker, richer colors. New wood can seldom match its homey, well-worn quality. The antique finish makes store-bought wood from cheap to chic. Manufacturers use steel chain, hammer, screw, nails to add tough texture to the raw wood.

The wire brush can easily dig out the softwood fibers and leave behind some of the denser grains. A piece of divot can add natural stains on the wood surface and makes these areas much darker, and more visually appealing. Paint and sanding can add a more distressed effect. Using cabinet scrapers is a great way to get a faded look to painted wood without much effort. The final step is to paint the surface and build up the layers by using different kinds of solutions.
